As previously stated, Old Town along with David Maus Volkswagen of Orlando, are proud to to be part of this years event which is to collect toys for the U.S. Marine Corps. Toys-for-Tots Christmas program.
This year we would like to support the program by encouraging each of our cruisers to bring at least one new un-wrapped toy (required for entry) and if possible a whole lot more. These will be collected and put on display at Old Town and the Marines will be on hand to collect them at the end of the day. We are also trying to arrange for the the U.S. Marine Color Guard to lead the cruise...
Toys for Tots began in 1947 when Major Bill Hendricks, USMCR and a group of Marine Reservists in Los Angeles collected and distributed 5,000 toys to needy children. The idea came from Bill's wife, Diane. In the fall of 1947, Diane handcrafted a Raggedy Ann doll and asked Bill to deliver the doll to an organization, which would give it to a needy child at Christmas. When Bill determined that no agency existed, Diane told Bill that he should start one. He did. The 1947 pilot project was so successful that the Marine Corps adopted Toys for Tots in 1948 and expanded it into a nationwide campaign.
That year, Marine Corps Reserve units across the nation conducted Toys for Tots campaigns in each community in which a Marine Reserve Center was located. Marines have conducted successful nationwide campaigns at Christmas each year since 1948. Last year, the U.S. Marine Corps. collected and distributed over 19 million toys to needy families in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
We also need to add that Old Town has agreed to be an official Toys-for-Tots drop off location for the month of December. We strongly encourage you to tell your friends and family about this very worth while project and to participate as they can.
Pikachu will be joining us along with Pikachu's car to entertain the children. There will be plenty of Pokemon stuff for the children to look at and even some free give-aways. Pikachu has performed worldwide and is always a big hit!
Annual Best Decorated Car Contest
On March 23, 1969, the first and last "Love Bug Day at Disneyland" was held in Anaheim, CA. in connection with the release of Walt Disney World's first full length movie of Herbie "The Love Bug" and had hundreds of air cooled VW's in attendance from around the country! During this event, they held a contest for the best decorated car and awarded a brand new car to the winner. (Click the speaker on the player below for sound)
As much as we would like to duplicate this event, it's just not possible for this year. However, Old Town cruisers are known for dressing up their cars during the holidays so we have decided to carry on that tradition.
For those who are interested in participating (not required for entry), we are going to be offering trophies to the best three decorated cars for the holidays. There’s really no rules, just use your imagination and see how well you can dress up your car. Judges will probably not be VW enthusiast's, so they won’t be judging how well your detail your car or it’s condition. In other words, they will be looking at originality and decorations...
Old Town is happy to help promote this very special event by offering special discounts on food, entertainment, and shopping. Details to be announced...
And of course, no event in the month of December would be complete without a personal visit from Santa. Santa will be available for pictures from 4:00 - 5:00. Make sure to bring your children and their friends...
Cruise the Brick Streets of Old Town
If you've never cruised the brick streets of Old Town in your favorite set of wheels with hundreds of fans looking on and cheering you as you drive by, you just haven't been part of the largest weekly car show in America. Our show may be a little smaller (there are on average 325 classic cars, hot rods, street rods, and antiques every Saturday night) but you won't want to miss this one. We will be cruising on the brick at 5:00 to your favorite Christmas music and will then return to the main stage area for final prize give-a-ways, presentations, etc..
The Costumers With a Cause Charity Group is a costuming organization that was founded by the united and collaborative efforts of several charity groups, including Wolf Pack Elite Charity, Heroes Alliance and Palm Coast Ghostbusters. They are dedicated to creating top notch quality costumes, and using these costumes to promote charitable organizations, attend children's hospital visits, and help raise funding for worthy and needy charities. The group contains hundreds of members who together have donated thousands of hours of their time in order to help children and charitable organizations in the past, and look forward to helping more in the future.
